I DID IT! Celebrate with me!

What's New?

At the beginning of 2025, I set the intention to finish my edits on the Lonely Girl memoir. Initially, I counted 21 stories that needed to be added. As I worked through them, there actually ended up being a couple more than that.

I timed the conclusion of the writing to coincide with Spring Break week. I had the beginning of the week kid-free, and spend six hours on Monday typing up the last chapter. The process wasn't simple since I had to wrap up all the subplots, lose ends, and leave the reader with a satisfying conclusion...to a life that continues to keep going and changing!

The feeling of printing out the completed draft - totaling 290 pages double spaced and over 95000 words - was phenomenal. I poured YEARS of work into the draft. And I was a little nervous to read it back over from the beginning. Here's a video I posted on Instagram after reading the first chapter!

The next steps are a complete read through (which I finished over the weekend) and then a second read through to compare what I have to my detailed outline. I'll identify any points that are missing and determine if they need to be added.

April and May will be devoted to making all the edits to the manuscript so it is ready to go out to beta readers this summer. Beta readers are early readers who give feedback on aspects like flow, pacing, and comprehension of the book. This step comes before professional copyediting and all the small tasks of getting the manuscript turned into a physical book. Still on track for publishing sometime early 2026!

I'd be honored if you'd celebrate with me by replying and telling me about something cool you did recently! It doesn't have to be a goal accomplishment. It could be a fun trip, a unique experience, whatever!

Recent Podcast Appearance

In addition to being the co-host of my own weekly podcast, the Inspired Writer Collective, I've also been more proactive this year in finding guest spots on other podcasts. Here's one that released recently.

Happier Active S1 E8 - Memoir Writing: A Path to Self-Discovery

In this conversation, Ellie Henrys and Elizabeth Wilson explore the transformative power of memoir writing and journaling as tools for personal growth and self-discovery. They discuss the importance of active participation in one's health journey, the role of therapy, and the connection between mental and physical health.

Cut Stories From the Memoir

This month's read was intended as the Foreword of the book, back when I originally thought I would write a blend of memoir and self-help. It digs into research about loneliness and why I was so passionate about sharing my story, knowing it addressed an issue many were feeling - particularly during and following the COVID pandemic.

Reflections on the Blog

Holding Space for the Temporary

On Friday evening, Ember (my 5 1/2 year old) and I had a glow stick dance party to Taylor Swift's Eras Tour recording. Taylor talked about how the night would feature songs representing 17 years of songwriting and album releases. She highlighted that the songs represented feelings she had "at one time".

Riding the Rollercoaster

After we wrapped up a recent podcast recording, Stephanie and I started talking about what it felt like to accomplish my latest writing goal, completing the (third) full draft of my memoir. I decided to hit record again in case something good came out of it. You can watch that clip here. I equated the way the progress of writing felt to riding a rollercoaster and more specifically, the initial steep climb.

Welcome! If you're a new subscriber to this monthly newsletter, you can check out past issues here. Reader, By the time you read this, the Lonely Girl manuscript will be with my editor, Laura! She lives locally here in Salida and even used to be my neighbor! Even though we lived near each other, we mainly exchanged pleasantries. We talked about her ghost writing and editing, but not to any depth. More recently, I mutual friend "introduced" us again, and I asked Laura to join me for coffee one...

Welcome! If you're a new subscriber to this monthly newsletter, you can check out past issues here. ...NOT Easy! Does the transition between seasons throw you off, Reader? It sure does for me! I knew summer time with the added childcare demands and push to record the fall guest podcast episodes would require my editing to go on the backburner...but I'm not happy about it. I worked hard to develop a writing system that worked for me in the winter and spring. Now I have to start from scratch to...

Happy Spring! If you're a new subscriber to this monthly newsletter, you can check out past issues here. It's Editing Time! I'm so grateful to have your support, Reader, as I journey deep into the editing trenches. From the onset, I wasn't sure what I wanted this process to look like, or how I would tackle this major feat. But as I've learned from paddling the Mississippi River, summiting 14ers, and getting through the long days with an infant, the only way to do it is one baby step at a...
